Alex Blumberg quote about storytelling

What We’re Watching /// Alex Blumberg – Creative Live

We’ve been watching this Creative Live course over our lunches recently. I just heard the above quote come out of Alex Blumberg’s mouth, and I love it.

Finding the right person to be the subject of your video is one of the most crucial elements in producing a strong video. Often the default is to focus on someone who is an expert on the topic at hand – a researcher, professor, etc. These people can be excellent resources, and sometimes depending on their personal involvement and experience, they can be one of your story subjects as well. But most often this is not the person who is going to most effectively connect your audience to the issue and information you’re trying to communicate.

As Alex goes on to say:  “There’s someone at the center of any experience who often has the most interesting take on it, and if you can find them, that’s the way to do it.”

We are constantly looking for ways to better ourselves as storytellers, as well as learn new ways to communicate the elements of strong storytelling to students, clients, potential clients, etc. The Creative Live course we’re talking about is one we’ve been hearing about for awhile: Power Your Podcast with Storytelling, by Alex Blumberg, and so far, we highly recommend it.

Obviously, we’re not podcasters, but all video storytellers are also audio storytellers, and the fundamental tools needed for great storytelling are applicable in any medium. This course has great tips on finding the best subject to tell the story and asking the kinds of questions to elicit authenticity and compelling stories.

And we’re only on Chapter 5…
