Adamorobe Sign Language – Ghana

I spent several weeks taking pictures in Adamorobe, a small isolated town with a very high rate of hereditary deafness due to a genetic recessive autosome. At one time, the percentage was thought to be as high as 60%, but has gone down over the last several decades. Do to their isolated location and the high incidence of deafness, the people in Adamorobe developed a village sign language called Adamorobe Sign Language that is spoken by both deaf and hearing people in the town.
