10th Annual Virginia Mentoring Awards

TheĀ Virginia Mentoring Partnership has awarded the Virginia Mentoring Awards to two outstanding mentors and two outstanding mentoring organizations. These are their stories.

Bruce Lalonde has been mentoring Harry Dews and Langston Scott for more than four years through the Team Up mentoring program. Alicia Meyer is a mentor and volunteer at Blackwell Elementary School through Communities in Schools and The Micah Initiative. AMP! Metro Richmond is a school-based program that matches mentors with Henderson Middle School students. Virginia Mentoring Coalition recruits and screens mentors and supports mentoring programs in the Hampton Roads area.

The Virginia Mentoring Partnership provides customized training for an average of 2,303 mentor/tutor volunteers annually, along with follow-up support and orientation for mentees.

In addition, VMP has provided program support to school districts and individual schools that house school-based mentoring/tutoring programs. We estimates that these efforts have benefited more than 50,000 youth since its inception.
